26 January 2012 - Breathe or Drown - byr a thoddaid

Put together a ship and a picture of a rotted pier and created the inspiration for the next poem.  Here, I’m saying that some go to find  their dreams, not realizing that those left behind tread water while waiting, their only hope is to breathe or drown in the reality that the other may never come back.  Didn’t mean to have this idea revolve around Erik’s imminent departure for New Zealand, but I guess that’s what subliminal thoughts can do to a person, especially a poet.
26 January 2012 - Breathe or Drown - byr a thoddaid
How long can ships be kept waiting,
tides forestalled and waves abating?
There’s anchors rusting in the bay for me,
to see time doesn’t stay.
Harbors swell and ports claim returns
no words come to tell of your concern;
with furled sail you left to kiss the sea,
to free what dreams insist.
I’ll tread the water, loving you,
turn blood to brine, let waves wash through;
a ship at sea must find the crest and crown,
the rest must breathe or drown.
